The price of gas in Illinois is up slightly. The statewide average for Illinois is now $3.90, according to the AAA Fuel Gauge report.
AAA spokesperson Beth Mosher says that's up a nickel from a month ago: "We've entered into the summer demand season. Unfortunately, we don't think that drivers can expect to see any relief at the pump anytime soon. Prices are going to remain high, we think, through some of the summer."
Mosher says drivers are bearing it and not complaining much, because $3.90 isn't outrageous for this time of year. Last year at this time, the Illinois average was $4.08.
GasBuddy.com shows the average price of a gallon of unleaded gasoline in southern Illinois is lower than the statewide average. Gas is going for around $3.65 a gallon in Carbondale, Marion and Harrisburg; and about $3.75 a gallon in Effingham. That compares with $3.36 a gallon in Cape Girardeau, MO and $3.50 a gallon in Paducah, KY.
