Former Jackson County Sheriff Bill Kilquist is scheduled to announce his candidacy for State Representative on the Democratic ticket in southern Illinois' 115th District.
Kilquist will make his announcement on Tuesday at 10 am on the steps of the Jackson County Courthouse. Kilquist was Jackson County Sheriff for 21-years before he retired in October 2003 to go to work for the state Department of Corrections. Kilquist says as a sheriff he worked hard to make southern Illinois safe and as a representative he will fight for fiscal responsibility in Springfield, bring jobs to our area and demand government accountability. Kilquist also serves on the John A. Logan College Board. He was first elected to the board in 2005.
The 115th District includes parts of Jackson, Jefferson, Perry, Union and Washington counties. Other candidates for the 115th District set include Republicans Terri Bryant and Bob White. The seat has been held by Murphysboro Republican Mike Bost since 1995. Bost is running for the Republican nomination in southern Illinois' 12th Congressional District.
