A southern Illinois lawmaker says student representatives on the SIU Board of Trustees should have more voting power.
State Senator Gary Forby says currently the two students on the board, one from the Carbondale campus and one from the Edwardsville campus, have one collective vote.
The Benton Democrat has introduced a measure to give each student a vote, which he says would give students from both campuses equal representation.
Forby's legislation advanced through the Senate executive committee and now will be voted on by the full Senate.
