The Carbondale Park District is set to unveil the final designs for the Super Splash Park
The outdoor aquatics center is expected to open in May of 2015. The Park District broke ground on the facility in October. It is located in the city's Superblock recreational complex on the city's east side. Monday evening the final designs will be announced during a presentation at the Carbondale Civic Center at 5:30 pm. Park District Executive Director Kathy Renfro says the Splash Park will feature a lazy river, competition pool, leisure pool along with water slides and a bathhouse.
The Park District along with a community advisory group has been working for several years to make the outdoor aquatic center a reality. A capital campaign is underway to raise $900,000 which will supplement a $2.5-Million federal grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. So far $700,000 has been raised.
