Once again politicians have led the annual assault on the English language. The 2016 election is responsible for many of the words and phrases included on the 42nd annual List of Words Banished from the Queen's English for Mis-use, Over-use and General Uselessness.

Herb Trix talks with John Shibley, from Lake Superior State University in Michigan, and compiler of this year's list.

The address for submissions is lssu.edu. That's also the address if you'd like to read the whole list.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
