Illinois' two U-S Senators want the Trump Administration to do more to address the housing crisis in Cairo.
In a letter to President Donald Trump, Senators Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth ask for a cabinet-level task force to address not just housing, but also health and economic crises in the state's southernmost city.
Durbin and Duckworth say the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development played a role in Cairo's economic decline, and that means the federal government should play a larger role in helping to build the city back up.
HUD last year took control of the Alexander County Housing Authority, and earlier this year announced hundreds of families would have to move out of dilapidated housing facilities.
