Durbin Calls for Weapons for Ukraine

U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin says it’s time for the U.S. to send weapons to Ukraine.

Speaking at a Chicago rally on the first anniversary of the deaths of dozens of protesters opposed to Ukraine’s Russian-leaning government, Durbin says Russian-backed forces are repeatedly violating the ceasefire agreement.

The only course of action now, according to Durbin, is sending defensive weapons to Ukraine.

“Ukraine is counting on the United States,” Durbin said. “Ukraine is counting on the European Union. Ukraine is counting on freedom loving nations across the world and support Ukraine.”

While some European nations, such as Germany and Great Britain, have specifically ruled out supplying Ukraine with weapons, President Obama hasn’t, though he favored a diplomatic solution to the conflict.
