One of the top Democratic candidates in the race for U. S. Senate says she hasn't finished reviewing the Iran nuclear deal but has strong concerns about it.
U. S. Representative Tammy Duckworth of Hoffman Estates is still criticizing her potential Republican opponent in the race, incumbent Mark Kirk, for signing off on a letter to Iran's president warning that the deal could expire when President Obama leaves office.
"I am concerned that a sitting United States senator would actually sign a letter to the leader of a nation that's continuously chants 'death to America' to undermine our nation and its international negotiations. I think it was very irresponsible of him."
Duckworth, who just visited Israel a week ago, says she remains concerned the deal could put the Middle East country at risk.
She says she plans to read both the classified and de-classified portions of the agreement herself before voting on the agreement, in about a month and a half.
