Police departments around the country are joining together to help get unused, unwanted, and expired medicine out of peoples' homes - in an environmentally friendly way.

Need to get rid of old, unused, or expired medication? Local police departments can take care of that for you Saturday.
Thousands of police departments across the nation are joining with the Drug enforcement administration, to take back drugs.

Deputy Brian Murrah from the Williamson County Sheriff's department says these events have always been a big hit, with their department alone collecting *hundreds* of pounds of medicine every year.

"Last October we collected 129 pounds. The April before that a year ago, we collected 144, the most we've done was September of 2015 and we collected 205 pounds of medicine."

He also says giving them these medicines provides an environmentally friendly way - of getting rid of them.

"And all the stuff that you don't need that you don't want that's not good anymore - the DEA will provide an environmentally acceptable way to dispose of them."

The sheriff's office will be taking medicine from 10 until two Saturday. Other local police departments are also collecting, so call your local department to find out those details.
