Deadly Shooting Under Investigation in Carbondale

Images

Carbondale Police are investigating after two people were shot on East Mill Street just before midnight Thursday.

Investigators say one of the victims - 35 year old Brandon Brooks of Carbondale - was killed, and another has been transferred to a St. Louis hospital for treatment.
Police say they were called to reports of shots fired in the 400 block of East Mill Street around 11:30 Thursday night. When they arrived, officers say Brooks was already dead.

CPD says the second victim was involved in a car crash at the corner of West Main Street and North Illinois Avenue on the way to the hospital. Others involved in that crash received what police call "non-life-threatening" injuries.

Police say the incident appears to be a dispute between acquaintances.

No suspect information is available in this case, which police say is still active.
