Dead Bills

Each spring, state lawmakers propose all sorts of bills that make headlines but never end up going very far.

This past legislative session was no different.  Some of the bills that garnered attention by the local news but failed to reach the governor's desk include a ban on hand held cell phones while driving; getting rid of FOID cards; concealed carry; a  satellite TV tax; and a bill that would prevent driving with your pet in your lap.

Many of these ill-fated bills were proposed by legislators after a constituent came to them with a particular concern or idea. Some of the bills were created simply to jump start a discussion on a controversial issue.
