DEA Says Drug Take Back Day Was a Success

The Drug Enforcement Administration says Americans did their part to drop off a record number of unused, unwanted or expired prescription medications.
Close to six thousand sites across the country took part during the DEA's 15th annual National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on April 28th.

DEA collected and destroyed close to one million pounds of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs, making it the most successful event in DEA history.

In southern Illinois, over 7,850 pounds were turned in, almost 400 pounds more than six months ago. In all, southern Illinois has contributed over 83-thousand pounds during the 15 take back days.
