Two southern Illinois counties have approved their financial plan for the coming year.
In Williamson County, Commissioners Tuesday morning approved a $14.7 million budget, a roughly ½-percent reduction over last year. Commission Chairman Ron Ellis says the cutback will be covered through attrition and other cost-saving measures.
In Jefferson County, a $10 million budget was approved on Monday. That fiscal plan includes a 4.9% tax increase, which leaders say will keep six Sheriff's Deputies and three Dispatchers on the job.
