Congressman Shimkus' Office Announces Grants To Three Southern Illinois Towns

Three rural southern Illinois towns are receiving a total of over $231,000 dollars  in federal money. According to a press release from Congressman John Shimkus' office, Goreville will receive $19,200 to go towards buying a new 4–wheel drive for the police department.  Since Goreville police provide emergency response to Fern Clyffe State Park, which has rough terrain, the grant money will better equip authorities to rescue hikers at the popular state park.

$25,000 will be given to Shawneetown to help officials there buy a police car, and Cave–In–Rock has been awarded just over $187,000 dollars for much needed upgrades on their sewer and water system.  Shimkus' office says the money is from the USDA Rural Development grant program.
