Carbondale, Ill.WSIU Public Broadcasting, the public media arm of Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC), and the Carbondale Public Library will host the second of five Community Cinema film screenings on Saturday, February 25 at 2:30pm at the library, 405 West Main in Carbondale. The event is free and open to the public.

Saturday's scheduled film is More Than A Month, a one-hour documentary by 29-year-old African American filmmaker Shukree Hassan Tilghman about his cross-country campaign to end Black History Month. Through his tongue-in-cheek journey, Tilghman investigates what the treatment of history tells us about race and equality in a “post-racial” America.

A discussion led by representatives of the NAACP-Carbondale Chapter and the African American Museum of Southern Illinois will follow the film. Also joining the discussion panel is Philliip Garcia, a graduate student in Social Work at SIUC and a member of the Progressive Masculinity Mentors (PMM) group.

Community Cinemais a public education initiative featuring free monthly films from the Emmy Award-winning PBS series Independent Lens, which brings to light unforgettable stories about unique individuals, underrepresented communities, or pivotal moments in history. Carbondale is joining more than 95 cities nationally who are currently participating in the project, which brings together leading organizations, community members, and public television stations to learn about, discuss, and get involved in the key social issues of our time.

Additional screenings include: Revenge of the Electric Car (March 31), Hell and Back Again (April 28), and Strong! (May 26). Each screening will feature a facilitator and guest speakers who will participate in a discussion with the audience about the topics raised in the films.
