Police will be out in extra numbers this weekend, watching for impaired drivers, and people not wearing their seatbelts.
Illinois State Police Trooper Joey Watson says they'll be looking for drunk and distracted drivers, speeders, and people not wearing their seatbelts.
"Our message is clear: If you are not wearing a seatbelt, you will be stopped and ticketed."
Williamson County Sheriff's Deputy Brian Murrah says you'll see more police out during nighttime hours, trying to keep people safe.
"Your chances for being pulled over for not wearing a seat belt have increased tremendously if you are on the road after dark - especially after midnight. We are determined to save lives. Traffic enforcement does save lives, and that's why we are focusing even more diligently on the time when most lives are lost."
The number of people wearing their belts has increase dramatically over the past couple of decades, as new laws have taken effect requiring their use.
Police will be using checkpoints and patrols to make sure everyone is buckling up, driving sober, and not using a cell phone while driving.
