An Iraq war veteran from Carbondale says he's dropping out of the race to succeed southern Illinois Congressman Jerry Costello.
Chris Miller made his announcement Friday. The two-purple heart combat veteran says he plans to endorse fellow Democrat Brad Harriman on Tuesday in Carbondale. Harriman, of O'fallon, is a former St. Clair County Regional School Superintendent. Miller's departure leaves Harriman and retired carpenter Ken Wiezer of Granite City vying for the democratic nomination.
Republican candidates are businessman Jason Plummer, former Belleville Mayor Rodger Cook and O'Fallon nurse Theresa Kormos. The Primary election on March 20th will determine which candidates advance to the November general election.
Long-time 12th district Congressman Jerry Costello announced last fall that he won't seek reelection.
