It’s Round two for the SIU Carbondale Chancellor Search.

Dr. Rodney Hanley visited campus Tuesday and answered questions from the hiring committee.

Dr. Rodney Hanley academic career has spanned almost 3 decades in the US and Canada.

He’s currently the provost and vice President for Academic Affairs at Fisk University in Nashville Tennessee.

Dr. Hanley has also served as a professor, department chair and dean in his previous positions.

Hanley says as chancellor he would like to look at how SIU markets and brands itself with all the good news that’s produce by the university.

“Somehow we have to get that message out into the broader market place for higher education so that students see themselves as coming to SIU for their educational opportunities.”

Hanley says that with Illinois’ budget impasse and the effects its caused across the state that SIU needs to plan for the future.

“We have to sort of begin to craft what the future for SIU is going to look like without that reliance on the state funding or at least that large pots of funding that may have flowed towards Carbondale in the past.”

Hanley feels this can be done with input from everyone on campus.

“One of the things that I see at SIU is the need for some robust strategic planning, the idea that a strategic plan that people feel like they have a sense of participation with.”

On Wednesday the hiring committee will welcome Dr Carlo Montemagno from the University of Alberta.
