Centralia, Mater Dei (Breese) Students Compete in Quarterfinals on Local TV Quiz Show April 27

Carbondale, Ill. -- Top students from Centralia High School will compete against Mater Dei (Breese) in a battle of the brains in the third quarterfinals on the next episode of Scholastic Hi-Q, WSIU Public Television's quiz show featuring regional high school scholar bowl teams. The half-hour episode will air on WSIU-TV 8 and WUSI-TV 16, the public television stations of Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIU), on Sunday, April 27 at 5pm, with a repeat on Sunday, May 4 at 9:30am.

Produced by SIU students and hosted by Robert Thies, a junior in Radio, Television & Digital Media from Ava, Illinois, Scholastic Hi-Q is a competitive game show series featuring scholar bowl teams from over 30 area high schools. Team members answer questions from a variety of disciplines, including art, geography, history, literature, math, music and science. The winning school of each game advances to subsequent rounds until they are either eliminated by another team or advance to the championship match. Season champions receive a large plaque for their school and recognition on WSIU-TV's airwaves and website.

In addition to providing participating teams with an opportunity to enhance their problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, Scholastic Hi-Q also helps students to develop poise and self-confidence while reinforcing life lessons in responsibility and teamwork.
