Carbondale Police say a task force is continuing its work investigating the shooting of a CPD officer Sunday night, and that he continues to recover.Twenty-six year old Trey Harris was shot as he responded to an incident on North Robert Stalls Street late Sunday.

Illinois State Police investigators are heading up a task force looking for suspects and other information. Police say at least two black men are being sought. A car, believed to be involved, was found abandoned and burned in rural Williamson County on Monday.

Harris was rushed to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, and later airlifted to a St. Louis hospital for treatment. He was released from the hospital Tuesday, but will need further medical attention as he recovers at home.

Carbondale Police say they're accepting donations for Harris' recovery. You can send them to CPD's "Injured Officers Fund," 501 S. Washington Street, Carbondale, IL, 62901.

Investigators say they're looking for any and all information about the case. You can call Carbondale Police at 457-3200 or CrimeStoppers at 549-COPS.
