A Carbondale man is headed to prison after a jury found him guilty of striking a woman during an altercation earlier this year.

The Jackson County State's Attorney says 50-year-old Joseph Warren received a nine-year prison sentence on the charge of aggravated battery, a Class 3 Felony.
The jury heard testimony from the victim, an eyewitness, and police officers who said Warren walked aggressively toward woman - with whom he had a brief relationship - and struck her in the face, causing her to fall face-first onto the concrete and lose consciousness.

A Class 3 felony carries a maximum sentencing range of two to five years, but Warren's prior criminal history caused him to face a maximum penalty of ten years.
