The Carbondale Public Library is sharing in a State-wide grant award from the Secretary of State's Office.
Secretary of State Jesse White is also the state librarian. He recently announced more than 12-million dollars in grants to some 600 public libraries across the state. Carbondale Public Library is one of them. It will receive about 27-thousand dollars, one the highest totals in southern Illinois.
Library Director Dianna Sussman says they're planning on using the money to help modernize some of their services including a new distribution system. The grant money can be used to pay for materials, equipment, and technology among other things.
Other libraries in the region receiving grants include the Centralia Regional Library, which is receiving almost 30-thousand dollars and the Marion Carnegie Library, which is receiving around 18- thousand.
