For the third year in a row, a librarian from south of Interstate 70 has been named Librarian of the year.  Diana Brawley Sussman, Director of the Carbondale Public Library has been named the 2017 Illinois librarian of the year.

Sussman has been a librarian for nearly 20 years. Prior to becoming the Carbondale Public Library Director she was the Director of the Southern Illinois Talking Book Center at the Shawnee Library System.

In addition to the traditional duties of running a library she has also been instrumental in the formation of the Nonviolent Carbondale initiative.  A program designed to increase tolerance and awareness of diversity in the City.  She will be presented with the honor  later this Fall  at the  Illinois Library Association's Annual Conference in Tinley Park.  Last year's Librarian Of The Year was Tina Hubert Executive  Director of the Six Mile Regional Library in Granite City.  For more information about Carbondale visit:  http://carbondalepubliclibrary.org/
