Cape Girardeau Man Arrested Following Traffic Stop

Carbondale Police

A traffic stop by Carbondale Police has resulted in the arrest of a Cape Girardeau man.

Officers say after the vehicle was stopped in the 600 block of West Main Street, it suddenly fled from the traffic stop and drove westbound on West Main Street. The officer pursued the vehicle until it turned northbound onto North Oakland Avenue at a high rate of speed, which is when the officer stopped the pursuit. The vehicle eventually crashed into a residence in the 900 block of North Oakland Street. The residents were home and were not injured during the collision.

The driver of the vehicle is identified as 20-year-old Darrian Jake of Cape Girardeau. Jake and the passenger in the vehicle were taken to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale for non-life threatening injuries. Jake was charged with Aggravated Fleeing to Elude, Resisting a Peace Officer and Driving while under the Influence of Alcohol. The investigation into this incident is continuing.
