A Chicago area man has been convicted of crimes in Carbondale.

The Jackson County State's Attorney says 44-year old Arthur Eckles Jr., of Calumet City has been found guilty of armed robbery and aggravated robbery.
The incident occurred in October 2017 when a Circle K gas station on South Illinois Avenue reported that the man had stolen several packs of cigarettes and money. Later that same day, Carbondale police officers found a man - later identified as Eckles - selling packs of cigarettes. They determined the cigarettes were the ones stolen from Circle K based on the tax stamps on each package.

Eckles faces 21 to 45 years in prison on the armed robbery conviction and 4 to 15 years for aggravated robbery. His sentencing date has not been set.
