Southern Illinois University's President fears the state's budget impasse could spell disaster for higher education in Illinois.
Currently, state-run universities are not receiving any state money because there is no budget in place. SIU President Randy Dunn says the schools can only hold out for so long.
"There is going to come a point where one of us in the statewide system is not going to make it, and shame on the state, shame on the players, shame on all of us if we get to the point where that happens."
Dunn says he and others on all of SIU's campuses are working hard to make sure the system can hold on through the tough times.
Last week SIU Carbondale announced details of its cuts made necessary by a drop in enrollment this year. Leaders say more cuts could come, if lawmakers and Gov. Bruce Rauner don't come to an agreement soon.
