A southern Illinois lawmaker is trying to lower costs on downstate truck drivers.
State Representative Natalie Phelps Finnie says she has successfully passed legislation out of a House committee to increase truck hall weights for farmers.
Currently, the Elizabethtown democrat says farmers are victims of the vast disparity in legal haul weights between Illinois and surrounding states. Her bill seeks to create parity and encourage drivers from neighboring states to use Illinois' grain elevators.
