Free event coming to Cedarhurst in Mt. Vernon on April 20

Carbondale, Ill. -- WSIU Public Broadcasting, the public media arm of Southern Illinois University, and Cedarhurst Center for the Arts, with support from Old National Bank-Southern Illinois Branches and Southern Illinois Healthcare (SIH), invite the general public to join them in the Neighborhood of Make Believe.

The family-friendly event is free and open to the public, and will be held on Saturday, April 20 from 12pm-3pm at Cedarhurst, 2600 Richview Road in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.

Area families are invited to visit Salley Mavor's embroidered fabric art exhibit, “Pocketful of Posies: A Treasury of Nursery Rhymes”; take a trolley ride through the Cedarhurst grounds (weather permitting); read nursery rhymes with Mother Goose; create a keepsake book and character mask; try group crafts; watch videos of the PBS KIDS television series Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood; meet Daniel Tiger and SIH mascot Filo the Fox; fly a kite; take a nature hike through the sculpture garden; and enjoy PBS KIDS activities and game apps for mobile devices.

WSIU will distribute free Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood stickers and placements while they last, among other giveaways. Guests also will have the opportunity to enter a prize drawing by completing an event survey.

Guests are asked to bring their own cameras and mobile devices. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
