Anna Man Sentenced in 2014 Beating Death

An Anna man has been sentenced in a beating death last year.

The Union County State's Attorney says 35-year-old Jessie Bell received 20 years in prison in connection with the April 2014 beating death of 46-year-old Jimmy Morrison of Anna.
Presiding Judge Mark Boie gave Bell the maximum sentence allowed under law for the Second Degree Murder conviction.

A Union County Jury found Bell guilty in May.

Friends of Morrison started a scholarship fund in his memory.

The goal is to raise enough money to fund a $500 scholarship annually to the best all-around male or female athlete at Morrison's alma mater, Anna-Jonesboro Community High School. Morrison was a three-sport star at A-J. He went on to play professional baseball for several years in the Boston Red Sox organization.
