Two more people have died as flooding sweeps across parts of Illinois, bringing the state's death toll to seven.
Authorities in Christian County say 46-year-old Cindy Dexheimer and 49-year-old Robert E. Gordon II of Edinburg drowned Tuesday. Officials say it appears the two were trying to cross a flooded area.
On Saturday, five members of a Kentucky family died, including three children, when they attempted to cross a low-lying bridge near Patoka and were caught in a rain-swollen creek.
Meanwhile, in Chester the Mississippi River is expected to reach a near-record 20 feet above flood stage on Friday. Leaders in the central Illinois village of Kincaid say flood waters have significantly damaged 30 to 40 homes. And in Granite City about 30 residents of a flooded trailer park used a Red Cross shelter.
