WSIU Hosts 54th Illinois Senate Candidates

Candidate Interview to air on WSIU-TV This Friday, October 12

Carbondale, Ill. -- WSIU Public Television, a public media arm of Southern Illinois University Carbondale, will broadcast the third in a series of Election 2012 Candidate Interviews this Friday, October 12 at 7:30pm on WSIU's primary HD channels,WSIU-TV 8.1 and WUSI-TV 16.1,with repeats on Sunday, October 14 at 12:30pm and Friday, October 19 at 5pm.

This Friday's broadcast features the two candidates running in the 54th Illinois Senate District. Republican incumbent Kyle McCarterof Lebanon and Democratic challenger Dan Stoverof Centralia are interviewed by Jak Tichenor of WSIU Public Television, Jennifer Fuller of WSIU Radio, and Caleb Hale of the Southern Illinoisan.

The interview also will air on WSIU's WORLD digital channels, WSIU-TV 8.2 and WUSI-TV 16.2, on Saturday, October 13 at 4pm, Sunday, October 14 at 6pm, and Monday, October 15 at 8pm.

The candidates will share their views on Governor Pat Quinn's decision to close the Murray Developmental Center at Centralia, Tamms Correctional Center, and other local state facilities, dealing with the state's $83-billion unfunded pension liability, balancing the state budget, fracking, and the future of concealed carry legislation in Illinois.

Senator McCarter, who has served in the Illinois Senate since February 2009, is a small business owner and former member of the St. Clair County Board and Lebanon Chamber of Commerce.

Stover is currently a member of the Marion County Board and former Centralia City Council member.  He is retired from Kaskaskia Community College where he served as a professor and department chairman.
