Associate Director for Radio

Jeff Williams is the Associate Director for Radio and Station Manager for WSIU Radio.  Jeff is a native of southern Illinois and has been in broadcasting for nearly 30 years.    After graduating with a degree in Radio-Television from Southern Illinois University Carbondale, he worked in radio and television news in Illinois, Indiana, West Virginia and Washington, D.C. before returning to WSIU Radio in 1997, as Morning Edition anchor/reporter.  Jeff served as News Director from 2001 to 2015. He assumed Station Manager duties in 2004.   WSIU is operated by Southern Illinois University Carbondale.  It  signed on the air in September 1958.

Metropolitan Books

This week the United States officially opened its US Embassy in Jerusalem.   A move, that has generated praise, as well as controversy and unrest in the region.  Michael Sfard is a human rights lawyer in Israel and author of the recent book The Wall and The Gate: Israel, Palestine, and the Legal Battle for Human Rights.  As an advocate for human rights, he offers a different perspective on the much covered conflict.

No one was injured in a minor train derailment in Ziegler.

The Franklin County Emergency Management Agency says one car derailed Sunday evening on the Union Pacific line when a section of wheels left the rails.  The train was carrying maintenance rock for the tracks.

A southern Illinois native is the author of a new children's book.  Dr. Kimberly Gordon Biddle grew up in Colp.  She now lives in California where she teaches at Sacramento State University.    LaDonna Plays Hoops is a picture book that tells the story of a young African-American girl who goes to visit her grandma for a family reunion.
