New Veteran's Outpatient Clinic Comming To Carbondale

Carbondale, IL – Carbondale will soon be the home of a new community-based veteran's outpatient clinic.
The Secretary of Veteran's Affairs says the new clinic is expected to open in mid-2009 and employ around 16 people.
The clinic will offer primary care, mental health, laboratory and tele-health services and will make referrals for other medical services.
Congressman Jerry Costello says this will help reestablish confidence in our VA system in light of the recent controversy at the Marion VA Medical Center.

Attorney General Madigan says George Ryan should stay in Jail

Chicago, IL – Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan says former Governor George Ryan's 6-and-a-half-year racketeering sentence shouldn't be commuted.

Madigan reminded reporters Thursday that the bribery scandal
involving Ryan's tenure as Secretary of State led to the deaths of
six children in one family.

Ryan has served one year and has asked president bush to commute the remainder.
Among other things, Ryan was convicted of killing an investigation of bribes paid for truck driver's licenses.

Farmers Hoping to Receive SARE Grants

Springfield, OH – The competition is expected to be tough as farmers and ranchers in Illinois develop innovative ideas to win federal funds for sustainable agriculture projects.

Illinois is among 12 states in the North Central Region of the Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Program.

The grants are seen as a way to boost farmer bottom lines for taking extra time to make sure their land is productive long-term.
